Materials Included
This first grade writing curriculum has everything you need to teach 30 weeks of writing lessons:
- Lessons Plans: Includes 150 daily lesson plans (30 weeks worth) that guide students through the writing process for 9 total writing assignments. Each lesson plan uses the “writing workshop” model and includes a mini-lesson, student writing time, and sharing time.
- Mentor Texts: Includes a list of 9 mentor texts that are used to showcase writing strategies for each unit. YouTube read-alouds of the mentor texts are available.
- Posters: Includes 74 attractive writing posters (both color and black/white options) that are used to display key information and writing strategies taught in the mini-lessons.
- Graphic Organizers: Includes 12 graphic organizers that students use to plan their writing in the prewriting stage.
- Writing Paper: Includes printable writing paper that students use for drafting and publishing their writing.

A Typical Daily Writing Workshop

Mini-lesson and Modeling (10-20 minutes): Each lesson begins with a mini-lesson where students are taught a writing strategy with the use of mentor texts and posters. Then the teacher models the writing strategy in their own writing.

Writing Time (15-30 minutes): Students apply the strategy from the mini-lesson into their own writing.

Sharing Time (5-10 minutes): Students share a piece of their writing from the day with a partner or the class.
